the "Yattokame Cultural Festival DOORS has embarked on a new journey.

Building on a decade of achievements as the "Yattokame Cultural Festival,
it now serves as an entry point into Nagoya's culture,
opening various doors to connect the past and future.

Awaiting travellers beyond these doors is a wide and deep encounter with the culture
of this city beyond your imagination.

Alongside traditional arts inherited from the Edo period and untold regional stories,new,
fresh perspectives on the city's culture are captivating the younger generation
and broadening the range of visitors.

The "Nagoya Hub of Arts" comes alive,
aiming not only to preserve and transmit historic culture
but also to create and blend new culture.

Urban Performances
A variety of performing arts decorate everyday street corners. A small story told in Nagoya. A wide variety of Nagoya's traditional performing arts presented from the streets of the present age and stage performances of gems presented from the theater. We will provide you with a space where you can fully experience "Nagoya's Traditional Performing Arts'' in a familiar city.
Educational Programs
Learn about Nagoya through a living textbook-seeing, hearing, and walking through the city. The popular educational program "Machinaka Terakoya" and the Nagoya Walking Tours "Machi Aruki Nagoya" have merged into one! The city, full of new discoveries, becomes a living textbook. Encounter one-of-a-kind stories and explore the hidden history on a journey of learning through Nagoya.
Nagoya Wagashi
"Nagoya is a paradise for Japanese sweets!" Lately, such opinions are voiced more and more frequently. The "Yattokame Cultural Festival DOORS" journey through Japanese sweets begins again this year. With the theme of "Going back to the origins of Japanese sweets and simple Japanese sweets from Nagoya,'' writer Minori Kai searches for various "simple'' aspects of Japanese sweets. With a pamphlet (to be issued in mid-October) in hand, why not take a trip inspired by Nagoya's noteworthy Japanese sweets?
ODORIBA
ODORIBA is a temporary experimental area that aims to imagine the shape of culture in the future and create a space for a new generation. An attempt to create a "garden", which was once a base for creation, in the gaps of the city begins.

Urban Performances

New Noh Play: "The Kusanagi Sword" and Nagoya Yokai Kyogen: "Meigasarae"

A new Noh play about the ancient symbol of Japan's nation-building, the "Kusanagi Sword," enshrined at Atsuta Shrine in Nagoya for over 1900 years, will be performed, drawing from historical facts and legends. For the opening of the performance, children who have practised the chant used in the new Noh play "The Kusanagi Sword" will showcase their skills. Additionally, there will also be the Nagoya Yokai Kyogen play "Meigasarae," which is based on Nagoya's Hori River.

Experience the charm of popular traditional Japanese arts—Tokiwazu, Rakugo, and Rokyoku—performed by female artists. The event features performances that are accessible and enjoyable for children, making it perfect even for those new to the world of spoken art. Additionally, there will be explanations by the performers, as well as special corners for commemorative photos and mini-games!

Enjoy elegant traditional Geisha entertainment while relishing a delicious seasonal Kaiseki dinner, a sophisticated Japanese haute dining. You will be able to spend a delightful time watching Maiko and Geisha dance performances up close. You will also have the opportunity to chat and play a variety of traditional Japanese games with these amazing artists. This year Ozashiki Asobi will be performed in English especially for English speakers to fully enjoy this unique experience.

NODATE Tea Ceremony Cafe

For three days only, foreign tourists visiting Nagoya can experience the traditional Japanese culture of “Cha no yu” (Tea Ceremony) at an outdoor cafe inside Nagoya Castle, the symbol of Nagoya.
A teahouse-like space with a mobile tea room and tables will be specially created for this event in the plaza that has views of Nagoya Castle and the Honmaru Palace. You may choose from one of two experiences: OTEMAE, a tea ceremony explained in detail by your host, or MATCHA, making your own matcha tea. Both foreign tourists and Japanese people are welcome to sit back and relax while gazing at the magnificent castle tower and enjoying a cup of tea.
